EDITORS STATEMENT

Bohema Magazine is a digital culture magazine based in Vienna, created and curated by students. One of our main objectives is to create a safe space for both young writers and readers of any age. It manifests itself in our decision to welcome all sorts of writers, offering them a space to grow and develop with the support of all our tangible and intangible resources. We are aware of the difficulties many young people experience finding a workspace in the creative industry, and our hope is that we will be able to help young writers at the beginning of their careers.

Our authors create their articles at the intersection of academic, creative, and journalistic writing. This ensures a lively, well-informed, and contemporary presentation of cultural topics that matter to them personally. This, as we hope, makes our texts interesting and relatable, which gives access to new perspectives on culture in Vienna to those interested. We in Bohema stand against so-called “gatekeeping” and make it our priority to share our academic knowledge about art, music, film, theater, and literature in an open and decipherable way. We believe that the Viennese culture scene belongs to everybody, and no one should be excluded from it.

Hence, we want to state that Bohema stands against all forms of hate and discrimination against people on the grounds of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious beliefs, class, or any other grounds. We believe in embracing differences and working together. Our authors are not limited in their choices of topics and styles as long as they do not contradict our values listed here. We appreciate the level of journalistic quality some of the bigger media outlets in Austria show. Yet, we are striving to find our own stylistic niche and keep our independence from standards set by groups of people we are not identifying ourselves with. Therefore, we leave a space for an open, constructive discussion with our readers, but we do not tolerate bullying. Bohema is a growing organism, and everyone contributes to its development: authors and readers alike. If you want to join us as an author, here is the link. If you want to support us by reading our articles, follow us, and thank you.
